Job Description
The NC Department of Information Technology – Transportation is seeking a Junior Specialist-level AASHTOWare Project (AWP) Developer with specialized expertise in web application development and technical configuration. The ideal candidate will work closely with state DOT customers, translating business requirements into practical, high-quality technical solutions.
This is a remote position, with work performed from home. However, candidates must be available for an in-person interview as part of the selection process.
Key Responsibilities
- Application Development:
- Leverage tools like SQL, C#, .NET, Python, PowerShell, and command line utilities to develop and configure applications.
- Utilize Lambda for web application development.
- Apply SOLID principles to ensure robust and maintainable code.
- AWP Configuration & Analysis:
- Review business specifications and configure the AASHTOWare Project (AWP) system to meet desired outcomes.
- Evaluate AWP requirements, provide technical recommendations, and configure solutions leveraging AWP’s tools and data model.
- Use the AWP Interactive Data Model tool to develop custom functionalities and analyze data.
- Collaboration & Best Practices:
- Work within an Agile SCRUM team to decompose development tasks into manageable backlog items.
- Employ industry best practices, including GIT for source control.
- Recommend and implement appropriate testing protocols, including creating test scripts for validation of software quality.
- Reporting & Customization:
- Develop or modify custom reports using AWP’s Active Reports tool (based on Grape City Tool).
- Customer Engagement:
- Collaborate with state DOT customers to ensure solutions meet their specific business needs.
Required Skills and Experience
- Hands-on experience with:
- SQL, C#, .NET, Python, PowerShell, and command-line tools.
- Lambda for web application development.
- Proficiency in applying SOLID principles in software development.
- Familiarity with state DOT business processes and AWP tools.
- Understanding of the AASHTOWare Project (AWP) data model and experience with the Interactive Data Model tool.
- Proven ability to:
- Review and translate business user specifications into technical solutions.
- Configure COTS applications and evaluate requirements for technical feasibility.
- Create, modify, and optimize reports using AWP’s reporting tools.
- Experience working in Agile SCRUM teams, including breaking down development tasks and reliable estimation.
- Expertise with GIT for version control.
- Strong skills in creating and executing test scripts to validate software quality.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working with state DOT customers or directly supporting DOT-related projects.
- Demonstrated expertise with specific AWP functions and processes.
- Familiarity with Agile software development frameworks.
