Are you a highly skilled System Administrator with deep expertise in VMWare, Windows, and Red Hat Linux? We are seeking a dedicated technical resource to join the NC Department of Health and Human Services (NC DHHS) to support the mission-critical NC FAST Application Development Environment.

This is a hybrid contract role based in Raleigh, NC, requiring a blend of daily operational support, strategic systems enhancement, and occasional travel to our Charlotte data center for hardware troubleshooting. Primary Responsibilities (What You’ll Do)

You will act as the key Linux/Windows Administrator and VMWare Environment Specialist, ensuring the stability, performance, and security of the NC FAST development infrastructure.

• System Maintenance & Upgrades: Install, maintain, and upgrade internal computer software systems used for application design and development.
• Virtual Infrastructure Management: Maintain and monitor VMware-based environments and the virtual server infrastructure health status, specifically managing VMware VCenter 6.7 or later.
• OS Administration: Provide hands-on administration and systems support for both Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) on x86 and Windows servers.
• Monitoring & Security: Utilize Nagios for performance monitoring and collaborate closely with Security and Audit teams to ensure compliance.
• Hardware Support & Travel: Be willing to travel to our Raleigh and Charlotte data centers as needed to troubleshoot hardware issues on UCS blade servers.
• Database & Storage: Manage and maintain SQL Servers and storage solutions like Pure Storage and VSAN.
• Team Support: Provide on-call support every other week (24/7), with occasional weekend/holiday work required.

Basic Qualifications (Must-Haves)

• 8+ years of professional experience as a System Administrator.
• Extensive experience managing VMware VCenter 6.7 or later.
• Proven hands-on support in a mixed UNIX/Linux and Windows environment, including OS administration.
• Experience managing and maintaining Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and Windows servers.
• Familiarity with network monitoring tools, specifically Nagios.
• Demonstrated experience with shell scripting (e.g., Bash, PowerShell).
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills and an analytical approach to problem-solving.
• Ability to work in a time-critical, fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.

Preferred Skills (A Plus)

• Linux/Windows Server Certifications.
• Experience managing UCS blade servers.
• Experience managing SQL servers and advanced storage solutions (Pure Storage/VSAN).

Compensation & Logistics

• Pay Rate: $50/Hour – 55/Hour
• Duration: 12+ Month Contract
• Work Arrangement: This is a HYBRID position. The candidate must be based in Raleigh, NC, and be available for required onsite work and travel to the Charlotte data center. This is not a remote position.
